Judging

Judges Decisions

Exhibitors all understand that a judge considers a variety of factors when placing an exhibit.  With this in mind the judges' placings represent that person's judgement on that particular day and time and each judge may differ. All judges' decisions are final unless that judges placing is found to be in violation of the rules or guidelines. In the rare event a judge's decision is found to be in violation of either Indiana 4-H’s rules or the rules and guidelines set forth by the Tippecanoe County Exhibit Association the project superintendent, member or members of the Exhibit Association, and a member of the staff of the Tippecanoe County Extension office will collaborate and decide on the best course of action to be in compliance with the guidelines.   In the event this group must change a placing that decision will also be considered final.

Hiring of Judges

The superintendent, extension office and\or appropriate exhibit association appointee will collaborate as appropriate to hiring judges for all fair projects and activities.  Below are guidelines for the hiring of judges to be considered during the selection process

  1. A judge does not need to be a subject matter expert but should have some background in the project whenever possible

  2. It is preferred that judges rotate and not judge more than 2 consecutive years in the same project.  This varies the feedback available to the exhibitor to help with their learning process.

  3. Judges should be free of conflict of interest with the exhibitors and whenever possible family members should not be used to judge.
